CCDA has been implementing new comprehensive project assistance by Palli Karma sahayak Foundation with endeavor of integrated household based development for poverty alleviation. The approach has been entitled Enhancing Resources and Increasing Capacities of Poor Household toward Elimination of their Poverty (ENRICH). The inspiration of the project is to ensure the best utilization of the resource (physical, financial) and human capabilities which a house hold is endowed with and enhancement of its resources and capabilities for undertaking potential activities. CCDA has been implementing the project in Eliotgonj south union under daudkandi upazilla in Comilla District.
Like many parts of Bangladesh, the under ground water of CCDA working area is highly contaminated with arsenic. On realizing the potential danger of prevalence of arsenic, CCDA in cooperation with NGO Forum started to set-up alternative technology to ensure arsenic-free drinking water on cost-sharing basis. These technologies include rain water harvesting and arsenic-iron removal plant. Supplying rainwater through pipeline among the community people at door step level on pilot basis is an important feature for CCDA activities. The program, one of the very few in Bangladesh, is running successfully, thanks to the active participation and cooperation of the community. On the other hand, CCDA has been implementing sanitation project through providing both hardware and software services among the community to complement the millennium goal of Bangladesh Government with the assistance of NGO-Forum. Hardware service includes manufacturing as well as distributing slab latrine (Low cost water sealed), while software is developing awareness and motivating people for use of improved latrines. Total coverage of beneficiaries under WATSAN stands at more than 10,000 families.
CCDA recently completed another project Enhancing Governance and Capacity of Service Providers and Civil Society in Water Supply and Sanitation Sector in 2 unions as Radhanagar and Gobindhapur under Meghna upazilla in Comilla district. Main activities of the project to local government capacity buildup, aware community people, provided safe water drinking and uses sanitary latrine (toilet).
Recognizing the needs and importance of the poor community, CCDA was involved in implementing health care program since 1996. Supported initially by ILO (International Labour Organization), CCDA has been providing low cost health care services to the community, especially to the credit group members, through introducing Micro Health Insurance system in 2003 with the objective to provide health care facilities to larger number of beneficiaries in a sustainable manner. To provide health care facilities CCDA was established a health Care Centre at Eliotgonj Bazar under under Daudkandi upazilla of Comilla district. The services include consultation by qualified doctor, medicines/drugs, investigations/pathological tests, referral arrangements etc—all at a price/cost much lower than prevailing market rates.
Presently the organization providing health care services to every household in Eliotgonj south union through another project activities in ENRICH. CCDA staffs going door to door to make them more aware and careful to the health, nutrition and personal health needs particularly for the women and their children. Health Officials collect health information and advice to beneficiaries for any serious disease to going doctor/hospital. The organization has been arranging day long satellite clinic and special health camp for normal disease.
Bangladesh is a large population country in the world. Lot of people migrated abroad for employment every year. They earn remittance and grow GDP regularly. CCDA has been implementing various projects with assistance RMMRU. CCDA form Migrant Rights Protection Committee comprising returnee migrants, journalist, local level bank official’s local leaders, family members of migrant workers. The organization awareness people, safe migration and ensure rights on migration issues such as rally, hatshova, uthan boithak, cultural program etc at the union level.
We also plan to focus on policy including situation analysis on social cost, policy advocacy in a different context of women migration, reintegration policy, Shadow report. Awareness campaigning activities by engaging community group/representative of returnees in collecting evidence-based information, legal assistance for affected women migrants and left behind families. Develop a model skill development training course for potential female migrant workers. Social and economic reintegration support for women returnees etc.
